Cracked Heels

Cracked heels (fissured) are quite a common foot condition but that doesn’t make them hurt any less or look any better. Summer heat or cold weather can make the problem worse.

The skin on our heels thickens naturally as a way of becoming resilient to all the pressure that they are under. This part of our foot is the first to make contact with the ground when we’re walking and we pivot our entire body weight on this area.

As the skin builds up, it can become dry and can eventually crack. Shoes that leave heels exposed such as sandals and flip flops do not help this problem as moisture evaporates from the skin. If a crack does appear, it can be extremely painful and occasionally can become infected.

Hard skin and cracks on the heel area can be easily treated and can feel and look a great deal better almost immediately. There are various creams which will help and lots of tips and tricks that i can give you which will make a huge difference. So don’t hesitate to get in touch and book an appointment at Foot Health Podiatry.
